Micah Ofstedahl (b. 1982, Austin, MN) holds a BFA in Sculpture and Ceramics from Minnesota State University, Mankato, and is based in Oregon. His paintings work in what he calls “altered realism”, hyper-realistic landscapes disrupted by rippling distortions that surface the hidden structures beneath perception, drawing on neuroscience, psychedelic experience, and the intricate biological illustrations of Ernst Haeckel. His sculptural training continues to inform a practice built around precision, movement, and the negotiation between control and chaos. He has exhibited widely across the US and internationally, with solo presentations at Arch Enemy Arts, Philadelphia (2022, 2024) and Ryan Joseph Gallery, Denver (2021, 2023), and group exhibitions at the Museum of the Southwest, Midland, TX, Vertical Gallery, Chicago, and The Hole, New York. He was awarded Best in Show at Surreal Salon 15, Baton Rouge Gallery (2023), and is a two-time recipient of the Haines Grant. His work has been featured in Hi-Fructose, Juxtapoz, and American Art Collector.
